April 2005 Pacific Coast Bike Trip | Page 1

Early in 2005 myself and my friend Kim Zhou made plans to go on a bike trip along the Sydney Pacific Coast, we had been on road trips many times before and found this to be a chance to examine the finer details of a journey, we drew up a rough route map and set the date for the 20th of April 2005. We would take the train from Hurstville station up to Bondi Junction where we would then ride along the coast down to La Perouse and then back up to Mascot where we would get a train to the city for dinner and then finally catch a train back home.

9:00AM - Hurstville
After a sleepless night, the day finally arrives but at 9am I wake up to grim skies and rains galore, fearing that yet another of my trips would have to be cancelled due to the weather I eagerly hop on the computer and check the weather forecast for Sydney, thankfully it says that the rains will clear so a quick call to Kim and get the OK for the trip to go ahead with a delayed start time of 11AM. Now with plenty time to spare I relaxingly treat myself to breakfast and TV and leisurely pack my bag for the trip then head out to my local train station to meet Kim for the train to the journey's start point at Bondi Junction.

11:30AM - Bondi Junction
Upon arriving at Bondi Junction we feed our hunger by heading into Hungry Jack's (a.k.a. Burger King) for lunch, without knowing it we both order a Bacon Deluxe Combo even both getting the Onion Rings top-up.

12:18PM - Tamarama
After riding our bikes for ten minutes or so we see the Pacific Coast for the first time on the trip, the weather however, left much to be desired (it makes for some dramatic photos though :P). Finding ourselves on a dead end road, we end up carrying our bikes down a steep staircase but with some nice fauna to photograph. :)
